Tina Turner

Tina Turner, ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’, died yesterday at her home in Switzerland aged 83 as Uranus returned to its natal place in her 10th house, eclipsing her from public life.

Tina Turner wasn’t only a fantastic singer and charismatic performer but also a role model for survival, escaping an abusive marriage and resurrecting her career in her forties to become the rock legend we will remember.

In his tribute earlier today, Sir Mick Jagger said that “She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous,” which is exactly what you would expect from her fiery Leo Ascendant ruled by the 4th house Sagittarian Sun.

The Sun itself is disposited by an 8th house Jupiter in Pisces linking her to the power of the underworld and enabling her to tune in to the collective unconscious. Her planets in Water gave her emotional power and empathy while the planets in Fire gave intuition, inspiration, honesty and confidence in the ultimate meaning inherent in life’s journey.

10th house Uranus is a bit of wild card, unaspected and ruling her 7th house, suggesting unpredictability and excitement in both her relationships and her public image. Her relationship with Ike was also her initial route to fame. Uranus is disposited by a Sagittarian Venus in the 5th house of self-expression confirms her vibrant public persona. In Taurus, Uranus suggests self-expression through her powerful voice.

Earth is lacking in her birth chart so we can imagine that she found it difficult to ground herself and found routine boring. Her Gemini Moon needed freedom, communication and people around her to feel comfortable and emotionally satisfied. Ruling the 11th house of society, she naturally found this in the public domain.

Yesterday, when she died, transiting Mars was conjunct her Pluto in her 12th house and the Moon was about to join it. I haven’t found a time of death but I would guess either around 14h30 when the Moon trined her 8th house Jupiter, or – perhaps more likely – 17h30 as the Moon entered Leo and opposed her natal Pluto, lord of 4th house.

Looking in more depth, the progressed Sun, now disposited by 10th house Uranus, is semi-sextile to 8th house Jupiter, trining the North Node and triggering the Jupiter/North Node quincunx. Prog Ascendant squares prog Pluto and prog Venus in 8th makes and exact trine to natal 4th house Mercury releasing her from the world that no longer contained either of her beloved (birth) sons.
