Mercury enters Cancer

Tuesday 27th June. 01.24 BST

Mercury enters Cancer – until 11th July when the communication planet joins the party in Leo.

Time for Geminis and Virgos to head for la plage!

I had to laugh at how literal astrology can sometimes be. This is the day my Gemini husband and I have planned as a beach day! Mercury rules Gemini and Cancer is a water sign very much associated with the sea.

The bad news is, on entering Cancer, Mercury immediately makes an awkward aspect to Pluto. This suggests potential revelations. Could more rot be uncovered around the past activities of our putrefying political leaders? Could there be disclosures revealing the canker at the heart of our corporate and media structures? The news could be interesting, if not edifying.

Cancer is a reflective, Moon-ruled sign, so your Gemini and Virgo friends are likely to be moodier, more changeable and perhaps more loving than usual. They might even feel a little insecure. Reassure them by telling them how much you value them.

This is a time when our communication might become more cautious. We’ll be chatting to people we are close to rather than out partying. Old friends and family are now very much part of the scene. Cancer is a fun sign but it likes to have fun with the people it loves, not be constantly making new connections.

Paying attention to how you feel and making time for being reflective are also themes right now. You might be fed up with all the Gemini-inspired socialising and decide to retreat inside your shell for a while and spend time with the people who are closest to you. Reconnect with your tribe.

It’s a time for visiting, calling, or even just thinking about, your mum or the person who played that role in your life.

Business decisions could be in focus too as Cancer is cautious and careful in dealings, thinking with its intuitive feeling nature as well as with its mind. Elon Musk is a good example.

In Cancer, Mercury is called upon to consider the past and a nostalgic element often creeps in. The trickster planet is happier darting about in the present. But in Cancer, you can at least join Ancestry.com and amuse yourself joining the dots of your family history. And if you’re out of inspiration, watch reruns of ‘Who do you think you are? curled up on the sofa with someone (or something) that you love.

Try not to wallow or get too bogged down in the quicksand of the past, however. Enjoy the silvery reflections, plump up the pillows and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
