North Node enters Aries, Monday 17^th July 2023, South Node enters Libra

This begins an 18 month dance between individual Will (Aries) and relational balance and harmony (Libra)

The astronomy; the Nodes are an invisible point in space where the path of the Moon crosses the apparent path of the Sun (ecliptic) against the background of stars. These points are not static. Nodes change signs approximately every 18 months and around 19 years to make a cycle of the Zodiac. The last time the North Node was in Aries was December 2004. 

The astrology; in the birth chart, the Nodes are related to our path in life. The North Node is a destiny point, where we are heading for, while the South Node speaks of where we are coming from – some even would say our past lives.

Transits of planets to Nodes and Nodes to planets or angles in our birth chart can often be significant, bringing themes in the shape of events, people, or simply moments of deep understanding, which guide us in a certain direction. So, for all of us this change is a big deal.

It’s worth thinking back to what was happening in your life in 2004-6. It might be that another layer is now being added to a theme that arose at that time. This will be related to where the sign of Aries falls in your natal chart.

With the North Node in the Fixed sign of Taurus the last 18 months, we have been aiming for stability, countered by with the South Node in Fixed Scorpio reminding us that crisis is always close. These are both receptive, yin signs which respond rather than initiate action.

Aries and Libra are Cardinal, yang signs. There will be much more emphasis on action and on courage. With the North Node in Aries there is focus on individual Will. This is the sign of the warrior, an intuitive sign that just ‘knows’ how and when to move forward. A Mars-ruled sign that will shoot first aiming with precision and instinct, asking questions later. 

Opposing it, Libra is about balance and harmony, especially in one-to-one partnerships of all kinds. Libra will want to weigh up the options and think it all through. Meanwhile Aries either hops about impatiently or has left the building and is already on the battlefield.

This coming 18 months is about finding the balance between these two, but the direction now is toward Aries, to movement and action. Ares/Mars was the Greek/Roman God of war and courage. Both are needed. Weigh things up, sure, but make that decision. This is the time.

If your Sun falls in the second half of Aries then you will have the North Node close to it in your Solar Return (Birthday) chart this year. This could be an especially significant year for you. If your Sun falls earlier in the sign, you’ll have probably have to wait until next year, but your time is also coming!
