Sun enters Virgo 23rd August 2023 at 10.21 BST. Virgo is Mercury-ruled but this is the Mercury of the sorting hat, organised Mercury, not the Gemini one that flits around in search of the latest story.
This is the time of harvest when we are surrounded – if we’re lucky – by the abundance of nature. These few Virgo weeks are the last golden days of summer when apples are ripe and grass is crisp and dry waiting for the autumn rain.
Sun Virgos usually love their gardens, and their gardens are fruitful. My Virgo friends (including those with Virgo Moons) hate waste and will spend Virgo season making jams to store away for winter and blanching vegetables for the freezer.
Virgo people also love books and to lose themselves in stories. Stories bring the imagination of their opposite sign Pisces into their psyches and allow these practical souls to escape into dreams in a bounded and safe way.
Virgo season when we start thinking about work, school and getting back into the usual rhythms of life after the summer. Virgo people understand the need for work and routine and are at their best when they are gainfully occupied by both. They enjoy exercising their skill and mastery over the material world by attending to its detail, sorting it out and lining it up.
They are also great managers and usually excellent with language. Hands up if you’re a Virgo editor. The Gemini Mercurys may write but it’s the Virgo Mercurys that turn the text into something publishable.
If they write themselves – and they may well do – it is usually something factual, unless they have a rogue Pisces Moon or Mercury to add that dollop of imagination.
The service aspect of Virgo must not be forgotten. These people make wonderfully caring doctors and nurses and are often interested in all things to do with health.
If they have health issues themselves it is often due to stress from over work because they are so conscientious. Digestion can be a weak spot and they may be prone to allergies. They need to take care to eat well.
Virgo’s analytical nature can make them critical, however, and they can spot a mistake a mile away. They expect perfection from themselves and quite possibly from you too. They will try to be tolerant but they may not always succeed.
Virgo people are very sensitive and can become overwhelmed by all the things they need to attend to in the world, because they can’t leave any of them. It must ALL be done. So, they need to build breaks into their routines – and take them! Time out to gaze at the Moon with their feet in the sea, and breathe.
This year, as the Sun enters Virgo, it immediately challenges Saturn, currently wading backwards through Pisces. The Virgo/Pisces axis speaks of service versus sacrifice, practicality versus imagination and the eternal quest to balance the desire to list and sort, with the urge to diffuse and merge.
Saturn would like boundaries but is struggling to create these in the watery world of Pisces. The Sun in Virgo, always aiming to be helpful, may offer structure and add practicality to the mix, perhaps aligning with Saturn and suggesting practical ways to offer compassion. This could mean fund raising or working in the 3rdsector, even hospital visiting.
The theme of finding practical service is underlined by Mars in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces. While the flowing aspect between Mars and Pluto deepens this desire but also increases the feeling that you need to get everything absolutely right.
Later the same day Mercury turns Retrograde in Virgo. Check out the post on this too.
