Sun enters Sagittarius at 14h02 UT on 22nd November 2023
With the Sun’s entry into Sagittarius the season of winter Fire truly begins, and with it our eternal search for meaning and faith. The Moon entering Aries around 17h30 the same day fans the flames, inspiring us to hope and awakening our joy.
Mercury has been in Sag for a while, expanding our ideas and enabling us to think more intuitively, making us aware of the bigger picture. Now we are feeling more fully immersed in the optimism of the moment.
Unfortunately, Sag ruler Jupiter is currently retrograde in realistic Taurus which may put the dampers on Sagittarius season. However, this could also engage us in a much-needed rethink of our Christmas spending patterns. More emphasis on the environment, perhaps?
The Sun’s first contact in Sagittarius is with Saturn who seems determined to throw cold water on our new found warmth. Or maybe it will try to create boundaries around our dreams and make the vision lasting and real. In any case, it only lasts a day, then the Sag Sun is free, as it always longs to be.
Sagittarius is a Mutable Fire sign. It’s super sociable and loves a party. It’s time to get your Christmas sparkles on. Sag will be front and centre, dancing madly to its own inner rhythm, unconcerned what others think.
Sag people get depressed and restless if their world stands still for too long or they are tied down to dull routine, but they never brood or seek vengeance – that was the speciality of Scorpio. Sagittarius can’t be bothered with grudge holding, these people simply move on – another town, another landscape, another horizon… These people are seeking meaning.
This is not ‘understanding’ – that’s what Gemini does. Sagittarius grasps things with a leap of intuition that they couldn’t begin to explain – and mostly couldn’t be bothered to try. These people are the teachers and visionaries and, as so often with Fire signs, they just know.
Sagittarius people are restless. They seek movement, adventure and freedom. They are often larger than life, crashing into your life and transforming your world picture, and then leaving just as suddenly. They are not subtle, they don’t do detail, they won’t pause to discuss your deep emotional issues (dull!!), or even notice when you’re feeling down. Their role is to inspire and to expand, to break you out of your cage. What you do after that is not their concern.
During World War II, Sun Sagittarius, Sir Winston Churchill, inspired a nation with his vision and belief. His versatility, however, is less well-known. In 1957 he won the Nobel Prize for literature for a six-volume work on the history of the war. He also painted with considerable ability and in his youth was an enthusiastic amateur bricklayer.
He no doubt had many faults, but from his horseback escape from a Boer prison in 1899 to his war time leadership, he possessed many qualities of the Sagittarius visionary and hero.
