New Moon at 20 deg 40’ Sagittarius on 12th December 2023 at 23h32 UT

In Sagittarius, the New Moon spreads her wings wide in search of fun and freedom. Like all New Moons, it’s a seed moment, a time for looking forward, consider what you are planting for the month ahead.

This is sociable New Moon, intuitive, confident, optimistic and ready for the adventure that is life. She has vision and will roam far and widen search of meaning.

No one loves a party more than Sag. These are the people that get invited everywhere because they make things swing. They’re inclusive and inspiring. They can’t be bothered with pettiness and squabbling – so much easier to just move on; there’s a big wide world out there after all.

Behind all this we have Sagittarius ruler, Jupiter, retrograde in Taurus. Jupiter here is sensual, reliable, nature-loving and an excellent cook. It’s also concerned with finance and land issues and is currently trekking back over old ground (though only until 31st December). 

So, this Sagittarius New Moon feels like a horse that wants to gallop off into the sunset but which instead is being turned back in the direction she came from to look for reason and inspiration in her old haunts.

She’s not as free as she might wish. She has one foot stuck in the earth and in reality, and must find her meaning within these parameters. She doesn’t have free rein. She can still be inspirational and intuitive, but must be realistic too.

And she’s fine with this. There is empathy between this Moon in Sag and Jupiter in Taurus which means that Sagittarius, for once, might be prepared to put the time in to make the vision happen. Taurus lends the new cycle a certain stability which will begin to move steadily forward when Jupiter turns direct at the end of the year.
