Mars enters Capricorn at 14.58 UT on 4th January 2024

Cardinal, Earth Capricorn is practical and with strong leadership ability. Mars, our planet of drive and energy works well here and has a concentrated, hard-working quality.

After the energetic and inspirational – but potentially reckless! – energy of Mars in Sagittarius, our planet of war and willpower now becomes much steadier, more focussed and more strategic. 

In Capricorn, Mars responds well to being controlled and directed. It’s ambitious, highly disciplined, and is comfortable working within a large organisation – which it will, of course, aim eventually to lead! 

As it enters Capricorn in 2024 on its two-year journey around the heavens, Mars immediately makes a workable contact with Cap-ruler Saturn in imaginative Pisces (exact on 9th), then moves on to a flowing trine with Jupiter in practical Taurus (exact on 12th). 

These are productive aspects and offer the opportunity for practical building of our dreams and the chance to put the foundations of our material future in place. 

Taurus and Capricorn are all about security and constructing a workable way forward, while Saturn in Pisces is about giving our dreams boundaries and foundations in order to make them real.

The Capricorn New Moon, on 11th January is also part of this ambitious, practical and forward-focussed energy.

Rafael Nadal has Mars in Capricorn – determined, ambitious and with a paced yet go-getting energy. Its fitting that as Mars enters the sign and makes a flowing aspect to his patient and steadfast Taurus Moon, he makes a ‘triumphant comeback’. 

Incidentally, Nadal also has a versatile and quick-witted Gemini Sun which is a signature often found in tennis players. Geminis have the ability to change direction quickly and usually have great hand-eye coordination.
