New Moon in Capricorn at 20 deg 44’at 11h57 UT on 11th January 2024

The sky at the moment of the New Moon gives us the flavour of the coming month. This a practical New Moon, keen to get things going, with added intensity and the desire for control shown by its proximity to transformative Pluto. However, its intentions and ambitions are confronted by the Nodes in headstrong Aries and people-pleasing Libra. 

This suggests that challenge of integrating the individual’s desire to go its own way and push forward (Aries) with the urge to maintain balance and consider the possibility of compromise (Libra), is hindering the general ambition to put useful structures in place that could potentially begin a constructive new cycle.

The missing element in this pattern is Water; compassion, feeling and imagination. It’s possible that with New Moon ruler, Saturn, in Pisces, we are afraid of allowing ourselves to feel too much. Perhaps we are unsure as to how to direct events and shape our dreams into concrete form whilst still honouring individual desires and without making too many compromises. 

With Mercury still involved in a challenging square to dreamy Neptune, communication might be promising but frustratingly vague. The Sun has just made a flowing aspect to Uranus so perhaps there has been some kind of breakthrough? Uranus is retrograde and slowing before it turns direct on 27th, so we may have gained insight on something we’ve been mulling over for a while. This could become even clearer after 27th.

The flowing trine from determined Mars to Jupiter in Taurus, offers the New Moon chart increased stability and assertiveness – projects begun now may well be followed through. But there is also the danger of intransigence and a distinct lack of flexibility, with the emphasis on the Earth element pointing up issues of land and money. Capricorn also brings in themes of status, heritage and leadership. 

As always with New Moons, wait until you see the crescent in the sky before taking action or making your wish.
