Mercury enters Capricorn 14th January 2024 at 02.49 UT

Our planet of thought and communication becomes more serious in Capricorn and much less chatty, though it probably has a dry sense of humour.
Mercury in Cap is a planner and mostly discusses practical matters such as careers, property, business and social concerns. However, the fishy tail of the mythological goatfish symbol adds a spiritual dimension and another level of understanding and conceptualisation, although this often remains within the confines of traditional religion.
Emerging anew from Sagittarius which it backed into briefly during its recent retrograde, Mercury has had a chance to refine its vision and reflect on its goals. It should now be better informed and have a more considered and strategic approach as it pushes ambitiously forward.
Mercury is not alone in Capricorn, other planets are in the sign too, and, as it is approaching a workable aspect with Cap ruler Saturn in Pisces, this is a good time for working out your practical ideals and communicating your plans. In short, it’s a good time from action in terms of initiating the correspondence and communication that may get you what you want – now that you’re feeling clearer about what that is – especially as the dark of the Moon has now passed and the crescent is clearly visible.
Be aware that your plans may bring challenges and that profound change of some kind could be involved as the Sun approaches its last conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn on 20th January and these two important planets prepare to move into Aquarius together.
Incidentally, Mercury never strays more than 28 degrees from the Sun in a chart so only those with the Sun in Sagittarius, Capricorn or Aquarius will have the Mercury in Capricorn placement natally.
And unsurprisingly our fast-moving planet of communication rules birds, including carrier pigeons.
