Aquarius is perhaps the most truly intellectual sign of the Zodiac and approaches things through the thinking faculty. It’s all about humanity and asks what it can offer the global community.

Aquarians are idealistic – and kind in a generalised, uninvolved kind of way – seeing all animals and people as equals. They often have a special affinity with dogs.

People with Aquarius Sun, Moon or Ascendant love to discuss, reason and put forward arguments but may hesitate to get personally involved.

This is because what they value above all is personal freedom, and joining a group or a cause might impinge on that. They will throw a donation into your bucket – especially if you’re collecting for animal welfare or saving the planet – but then, with a wave they move on.

These are independent people who make loyal friends and lovers – as long as you don’t cramp their slightly weird style. They’ll be there when you need them and if they’re not, they’ll be somewhere outside in the open air, so just give them a call.

There’s a rebellious streak to be aware of and Aquarians are often ahead of the curve – or on a different trajectory altogether. They can also be cranky and stubborn in their futuristic viewpoints and opinions, and they’re not always comfortable with the murky world of emotion. Expect sympathy, but not empathy.

Above anything else, Aquarians know how to be friends.
