Mars enters Pisces

Mars enters Pisces at 23h47 UT on 22nd March 2024

After two long years circumnavigating the heavens, Mars, our warrior planet, returns to Pisces, sign of compassion, imagination and universal love where it will stay until 1st May.

We have a window, then. With the eclipses imminent in Aries and Libra it’s notable that both will be ruled by planets in Pisces. Eclipses always suggest major beginnings and major endings and these are tied to the eclipse of October last year.

Suffering and sacrifice are both Pisces themes and we have seen plenty of both in the news these past months. Perhaps at last, with our planet of war immersed in the waters of the world, we will find the power to bring it to an end.

On a less optimistic note, it could mean that the sea, rather than the land becomes the battleground.

Mars in Pisces can be a wily fish, achieving its aims through subtlety and manipulation. Often, through its natural compassion, it will assert itself on behalf of others, fighting for the underdog or for those it loves in a way it is unable to do for itself.

With the planets all bunched in on third of the Zodiac circle, Mars makes no major aspects (except fleetingly to the Moon who keeps everything moving) until its meeting with Saturn on 10th April at 14 degrees Pisces. This is often a challenging aspect as Mars tries to surf the waves and move forward and Saturn endeavours to apply brakes and boundaries.

Billie Eilish has Mars in creative, dream-like Pisces in the 12th house where it tunes into the collective imagination and zeitgeist.

Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, won an Oscar for the Barbie film song ‘What was I made for?’ in which Barbie expresses the question that haunts us all at some point in our existence. The irony is that something so profound is brought to us through this confection of pink candyfloss -although that is perhaps, true of the entire film.

It reminds us, as Pisces always should, that the illusion and the infinite are always just beyond the limits of our perception to be expressed through talent such as this. It is what Billie Eilish was made for.

Incidentally, Billie Eilish also has a shape-shifting Pisces Ascendant – a chart signature she shares with Ryan Gosling, aka Ken.

Perhaps Mars in Pisces will have the imagination to shape a more compassionate future and the co-presence of Saturn will lend it structure. These things are possible. We have just under six weeks to put the foundations in place.
