There are moments in our lives when we sense we are at a crossroads. Transition points on which outcomes hang. Times at which the future waits for the soul to choose its path – consciously or otherwise.

And sometimes, these points fall on eclipses.

Eclipses are portals. The challenges they present when they are locked into our personal birth chart by sign and degree often determine how we go forward. They symbolise beginnings and endings and can be profoundly transformative.

This is a solar (New Moon) eclipse in Aries so it speaks of beginnings which will carry us through to the next eclipse season in six months’ time, and perhaps further still into the future. In Aries it is bold and direct, with a dose of compassion and imagination from ruler Mars in Pisces.

Mars is approaching stoical Saturn, lord of boundaries, which may signal frustration but also give us the power of endurance. This could be an eclipse where we understand that there is something we must endure.

As with all cosmic energies, eclipses work best when we open ourselves to their potential. If we don’t, and they are locked into our time/space continuum through the mandala of our birth chart, they may suck us in like a whirlpool and the option to harness our chariot to the horses of the universe is lost. It’s usually best to say ‘yes’, but it’s our choice.

This eclipse is especially powerful as it is partile (exactly conjunct) Chiron, which represents the shaman, the healer and the teacher. Chiron shows where we feel wounded, the place that we cannot heal. It speaks to the outsider in us all.

How many of us feel truly whole, loved and included? The presence of Chiron in the birth chart of each and every one of us shows that we all have this wound, manifesting in different ways. It is a vital part of what makes us human.

In our solar system, Chiron has an unusual, elliptical orbit spinning inside Saturn and out beyond Uranus. It bridges the chasm between the seen (Saturn) and the unseen outer planets. Symbolically, it connects the conscious to the unconscious. This wounded Centaur breaks down the boundaries between gods and men.

Chiron at the heart of this eclipse is demanding that we be authentically ourselves and recognise that we are, each and every one of us, a bridge between this moment and the future.
