Neptune turns retrograde 11h40 BST 2nd July – 7th December 2024 🌊

The God of the Oceans has been treading water in the last, powerful, anaretic, degree of Pisces, for a while now, as if unwilling to leave the sign where he is in rulership. Understandably, as he won’t return home for around 150 years.

Neptune symbolises our longing for redemption, our deep desire to merge with the divine. ‘Neptunian’ experiences often have a transcendent, mystical feel to them and can be very powerful. 

Those with Neptune prominent in their charts often seem to be tuned into something greater than themselves. 

They may have a link to the collective unconscious and/or a sense of the numinous about them together with a powerful imagination which they seek to express through music or art. 

Neptune is also linked to the search for transcendence through alcohol or drugs and some of our most sensitive and creative souls have this powerful but often self-destructive, tendency. 

Transits of Neptune can bring confusion, indecision, lack of direction and depression as the things we imagine and feel are not really of this world, as well as sublime experiences and powerful visions. 💫

So, if Neptune is about our dreams, Neptune retrograde may be about facing up to what it really takes to turn those dreams into reality. 

This is where some of us bail out, pour another glass of whine 🍷 (pun-intended) and say ‘what’s meant for me won’t pass me by’ – while it does exactly that. 

Others may find the strength to mould the Neptunian mist and weave those dream-threads into something solid in the material world. 

There is something here about facing up to our own agency. Things don’t build themselves, as Saturn has recently been telling us. Saturn retrograde in Pisces should help us consolidate and create structure.

And…Neptune can also be about disease, so this retrograde period could suggest remission or relief from something you’ve been suffering from. If this is the case, use this time to get stronger.
