A New Moon at 14 deg 23’ Cancer at 23.57 BST on 5th July 2024

This New Moon is exactly conjunct Sirius, also known as the ‘Dog Star’. Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation of Canis (Dog) Major, which, from 3rd July to 11th August, rises and sets with the Sun.
The Romans called this period of high summer in the northern hemisphere ‘the days of the dog star’ which we’ve shortened to ‘dog days’.
Sirius shines 23 times brighter than our Sun and some shamanic traditions is believed to be the Sun’s Sun. It’s associated with higher consciousness and spiritual awakening. A New Moon conjunct Sirius is going to be extra powerful.
This Sun/Moon conjunction begin their new cycle in the imaginative, creative and somewhat cautious sign of Cancer. It’s close to Venus to engage beauty and our values, and makes a flowing trine to Saturn in Pisces.
This is a New Moon for connecting with family or tribe, or for beginning some creative project to do with your home or your ancestors. It tells you that relationships are important and need to be nurtured and cherished.
Cancer is a Cardinal sign so think about initiating new projects that you’re emotionally engaged in. This sign has business sense too and a strong work ethic.
The New Moon makes a positive trine aspect to the Ascendant of the UK chart from the 4th house of home and land. It’s widely conjunct Pluto suggesting powerful transformation.
Transiting Venus sits on the UK Moon. In a mundane chart, the Moon represents the People – so a cautious new cycle in which people are focussed on their core values which are nurturing, creative and concerned with family and tribe.
