Annular Solar Eclipse – endings and new beginnings

New Moon on 2nd October 2024 at 10 deg 03’ Libra: Annular Solar Eclipse

Eclipses are often moments when life feels speeded up. Things pile in, one on top of the other, for us to somehow juggle and deal with. 

The Lunar Eclipse on 18th September was a super-charged Full Moon signifying completion, decsions and the culmination of things.

This time between the two eclipses has been a liminal space, undefined and uncertain. It’s been a time for letting go of the things that we can’t take with us into the future. A time to come to terms with endings and new beginnings.

For us the ending was our dear old Alfie, our Labrador. He was nearly 13, in terrible pain with arthritis and struggling to move. Still very hard to lose him.

The beginning has been a pair of kittens, around 10 days old, found by neighbours in the dustbin, very old and close to death. They have a forever home to go to but we are currently fostering them.

This solar eclipse in Libra has already brought with it so much transformation, violence and destruction on the global stage and for many, on a personal level too. 

Why is it so transformational? Because it’s ruled by Venus in Scorpio, in the underworld, disposited (ruled) by Pluto stationing in Capricorn on the powerful anaretic degree, determined to get what it wants and to mould the world in his image.

And because it is challenged by Mars in Cancer, sign of the past, of tribe, family, belonging, and of nostalgic emotion.

In Libra, we’re in the realm of of relationships, the quest for compromise, peace and justice. There is the need to deliberate and weigh things up before passing judgement. And decisions will be taken, but don’t be in a hurry. 

The nature of an eclipse is that something is hidden. In a Solar eclipse, the light of the Sun is blocked by the Moon. Perhaps our emotions or our past is somehow clouding our vision and preventing us from moving forward or letting go?

Mercury is in the mix so there will be plenty of discussion, weighing up options.

However, the eclipse ruler is Venus in Scorpio, where she is deeply unhappy over affairs of commitment, betrayal or perhaps money and shared resources. 

With this Libra eclipse, Venus seeks transformation of values and relationships.

Give it time, wait for the crescent Moon to appear in the Eastern sky, then set your intentions, pass your judgement and reset your life.
