Mars turns retrograde at 6 deg 10’ Leo on 6th December 2024 at 23h33 UT

If you’re feeling tired or unable to make a decision this week it could be because our planet of drive and energy is stationing retrograde in Leo. 

Mars represents the energy we have to push forward in pursuit of our goals. Mars in Leo wants to express and be recognised for, its heroism and to be seen in the world. It wants attention (over here, please!). It is courageous and stands up bravely to be counted.

When it feels appreciated the Mars in Leo fire burns brightly and contentedly. In return, it distributes warmth and light, it generously shares its bounty.

Generally, Mars in Leo knows what it wants and is direct and honest about getting it. As it stations, however, we may be very conscious of what are aiming for but, as the red planet turns and tracks back, there may also be a theme around what we can’t (yet) have.

In the early degrees of Leo, Mars is opposing Pluto, god of the underworld and planet of transformation, across the sky in egalitarian Aquarius. Perhaps we – the Mars in Leo individuals – can’t have what we want because there is society to consider, friendship groups, the planet, the wider world?

Perhaps, after all, it is not all about us (what??!!) and the universe has other plans…

Or maybe, like Greek hero Heracles, Mars must pause and make the journey to the underworld before moving forward. There maybe an initiation to undergo which leads to a transformation of our goals and reorientation of our quest.

This retrograde may feel frustrating but it grants us time to rethink what we want and how to go about getting it in a way that aligns us to the greater good. It’s a time to track back, reflect and consolidate our position. 

Pay special attention if you have Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Leo, or in the Mars-ruled signs of Scorpio and Aries as this may signify a change in how you approach things.  

Mars stays retrograde until 24th February 2025, moving in January from Leo back to self-protective, family-oriented Cancer. During this time we may well lack our usual energy and drive.
