Just before the New Moon, in the contemplative darkness when her light is blocked by the Earth, Chiron, our maverick planet, stations direct at the degree of the potent ‘Chiron eclipse’ of 8th April 2024.
The New Moon itself takes place just a day later. It’s known as a black moon as it’s the second in this calendar month.
A New Moon is a seed moment and it seems appropriate that it should be happening as we prepare to transition from one year to the next.
Capricorn is naturally shy and contemplative, a Yin sign, naturally introverted with a strong spiritual element beneath its practical, ambitious exterior.
This is a New Moon that seeks to take responsibility and understands duty and care. It’s proximity in time to that stationing Chiron suggests the two are connected. The feeling of releasing or letting go of some of the hurt and pain of this year with Chiron and the dark Moon, is now followed by a new lunar cycle in the quietly determined sign of the goat-fish.
This is a healing New Moon and a time for new beginnings.
Capricorn is a Cardinal sign so the New Moon is asking us to take the initiative and to begin new projects – though it’s advisable to wait a couple of days until you see the crescent in the sky before launching your venture.
The New Moon stands alone in the sky, ruled by Saturn in Pisces, emphasising the desire to bring compassion and spirituality into the new year, and to realise, to concretise, our dreams.
Capricorn takes time over things. Saturn always has time. So, this New Moon is a moment for long term goals, things to be worked on, not quick fixes.
This new cycle is about creating operating structures and strategies, for making plans to do with buildings, careers, and all aspects of our lives as we live them in the material world.
Things which have substance and tradition are favoured with this new Moon. New initiatives may be built perhaps, on what has gone before.
It’s linked to the Full Moon on 29th June 2026. This is when things begun now may reach their full potential.
So, allow the old year to pass, release its residues, and move forward with quietly ambitious intentions.
