Spring Equinox; Fresh Energy

Sun enters Aries at 09h02, 20th March 2025

In this transitionary year, the Sun’s annual shift into Aries is especially symbolic. It has the sense of being a ‘prophet’ for the coming move of the heavyweights, Neptune and Saturn, into that sign.

Just before the new Zodiac year begins, the Sun connects with Neptune in the final degree of Pisces, the last sign of the Zodiac. This is a poignant moment; the Sun won’t connect with Neptune in its own sign again in our lifetimes.

There is a weariness about this intensely Pisces-Neptune energy and the profound sense of an ending.

It is time to make way for fiery new beginnings – although, as Pluto did during its entry into Aquarius, both Saturn and Neptune test the Aries fire before finally committing wholeheartedly to the flames early in 2026.

As a Zodiac sign, Aries is fresh, bold, enthusiastic and definitely on a quest. It’s a Cardinal sign, ruled by Mars, courageous and goal-focussed. Above all, Aries needs action.

This is the sign of the Hero. Aries people are natural leaders, prepared to take responsibility. They need challenge in their lives and will pick up their spears and go into battle without hesitation for something they believe in.

Aries has the natural confidence and optimism of all the Fire signs. There is a warm and generosity about these people which inspires others.

With Aries there’s no time for the negotiation and equivocation of its opposite sign Libra and patience isn’t a strong point. They make decisions and off they go. Aries has a naïve loyalty and a youthful, exuberant quality that simply has faith in life itself.

The moment the Sun ingresses moves into Aries creates what is known as the ‘Aries ingress chart’ which sets the tone for the coming year – although it will be modified by the solstices and the Autumn equinox at the beginning of each new season.

In the 2025 ingress chart, Mercury and Venus are still retrograde in the early degrees of Aries and make a flowing aspect to the Moon in Sagittarius. The Sagittarius Moon is warm, optimistic and looking to the future, although its opposition to Jupiter suggests the need to balance the vision with information and discussion.

The retrograde planets suggest this is a year for reflecting more than usual on our values and how we want to move forward. There will be a need to be adaptable (Jupiter Gemini, NN Pisces, Moon Sag) but also to take bold steps when the time is right. Venus makes a sextile to Pluto and a mini grand trine is created so we have power to fight for our ideals, but we might not do it overtly. Instead, with Aries ruler Mars still in Cancer we are cautious but prepared to tenaciously defend what we love and cherish.

Uranus, the only planet in Earth suggests sudden change may occur in realms of finances, land, natural resources and our possessions in general. It makes a positive aspect to Saturn which is perhaps trying to give structure to new opportunities and to Mars which gives the unexpected changes an energy and focus.

There is a lack of certainty and stability – unsurprisingly given the global situation – and flexbility is key, as is the need to move cautiously, but with determination towards our goals.
