New Moon in Virgo at 0 deg 22’ at 07h06 UTC+1 on 23rd August 2025
The New Moon takes place just hours after the Sun moves into the sign of Virgo and is still in the first degree. The newest of new seeds with all the freshness of the Virgo qualities of helpfulness, kindness, discernment, skilfulness…
This is a time for new rhythms in our lives. Every year, as Virgo begins the northern hemisphere returns from summer breaks to school, work, to every day life.
Virgo is all about the everyday. Finding Grace & Purpose in the routines and rituals of our lives, with the underlying belief, that in the end, this is what we have… not the big dramas, but the quiet minutes.
The dark of the Moon in Leo concludes our reflections on our own drama and moves to the practical considerations of the beginning of the new lunar cycle and with it, the harvest, the beginning of the new academic year, the back to work, back to the practicalities of every day life.
This year the Virgo New Moon is challenged by Uranus in Gemini. Both Moon and Uranus are ruled by Mercury in Leo. This is a challenge to create a new beginning that revolves around creativity and self expression.
New unexpected things may happen around this New Moon. We may be asked to release old ideas and embrace new versions of the future.
We may be challenged to consider solutions and changes in our everyday, our jobs, our life, that we hadn’t imagined.
This brings us back to the Mercury retrograde question of ‘who are we now? Who do we want to be going forward?’ This New Moon is about planting practical seeds in our world to bring our dreams and visions into reality. It’s about changing our thought patterns so new things can come through.
Sitting at the Apex of a powerful Yod formation with the outer planets it is a release point and a portal.
More prosaically, the Virgo New Moon is the perfect time to initiate heath regimes and daily patterns that will serve us as we move towards the autumn and winter.
The Virgo New Moon asks; How am I being useful in the world?
What ‘new beginnings’ can I make to reduce stress and improve my health?
How can I adjust my daily routine to give a better work/life balance?
Can I carve out a few minutes daily to do something that grounds me?
Take moments, just moments, to notice the play of light on water – even a puddle; the rising of the moon; the song of birds in the trees…?
These are the things that connect us to the wider universe – and to our soul. In Virgo season we can build new, small processes into our daily lives that enable us to become more present and connected.
Taking a walk at lunchtime – even in the rain.
Editing to-do lists to make them more realistic.
NOT apologising for things that aren’t our fault.
Telling ourselves – and others – that we/they are doing fine, we/they are enough.
These things will positively impact our mental & physical health.
And once or twice during the day, stop, breathe, notice, be present in the world.
Breathing in we take in what we need to nourish us. Breathing out we release that which no longer serves…
