Full Moon at 15 deg 22’ Pisces at 19h08 UTC + 1 on 7th September 2025. Total Lunar Eclipse at 19h12.
Full Moons are the culmination of a cycle and are often points around which decisions are made, especially when they tie in closely to our charts.
Eclipsed Full Moons, however, are more than this, and often herald major beginnings and major endings in our lives. Eclipses in general (New Moons and Full) may serve as portals which we step through – sometimes whether we want to or not.
An eclipse happens when one of the luminaries, in this case, the Moon, is partially obscured by the Earth or the Sun.
This Pisces Full Moon, which should be shining brightly, throwing light on a situation and encouraging us to be compassionate and to balance this with practical action, is hidden by a shadow.
Slowly, however, the shadow falls away and matters, situations, even objects which were hidden or unclear, may now be fully revealed.
And in light of this new information, we may need to take a new direction. Things may be better – or worse -than they initially appeared.
None of this means that eclipses are inherently ‘bad’. Rather, they are often linked to some kind of development, decision or realisation which brings about change. Eclipses within a cycle (around 18 – 24 months), often bring new developments in an ongoing story.
The good news is that in all this we have Freewill. We can, at least, choose how we respond.
The area of life in which change or development takes place, will probably be symbolised by the house in our birth chart within which the eclipse falls.
This eclipsed Full Moon sits in Pisces, sign of compassion, of spiritual service and of the desire to merge with others and with the numinous. It is an imaginative, creative and emotional sign which seeks to connect and often struggles with firm boundaries. It is the sign of poets, musicians, healers and sometimes of those with addiction issues for whom our world is just too difficult and painful.
The Pisces Moon might be longing for something which remains hidden or ‘eclipsed’. At a Full Moon we are asked to let go, and to balance our loss with new, practical solutions. It’s important to look at what can actually be done, here in this world with its physical restrictions.
Across the sky sits the skillful Virgo Sun which seeks to manage and organise the chaos of the universe. Virgo is helpful and wants to be useful, offering service on a practical level. While Pisces offers hyacinths for the soul, Virgo brings nourishing soup.
The feeling nature of this full Moon is expanded and given meaning by Jupiter in Cancer which desires to nurture and to create. It finds meaning through imagination, dreams and connecting with the place we have come from. It sits in mutual reception with the Moon showing that meaning, nurturing, compassion and the past are all part of the same weave.
So we have a deeply emotional eclipse, during which we are nevertheless seeking workable solutions to genuine material or physical issues. For some of us, this might revolve around health or work, family, and themes of belonging. It may well speak to us of the things we long for and love most in the world.
Virgo’s conscientiousness and desire to find solutions can create stress during this eclipse, while Pisces wants to run away, bury its head and retreat. Balance and healing maybe found through nature and gardening, or non verbal forms of expression such as dance and music.
The awkward quincunx aspect to Venus in Leo suggests that money may be an issue. What is the material cost of fulfilling our desire, and can we afford it? Ruled by Mars in Libra which sits in challenge to Jupiter it suggests there are compromises to be made and we have to square these with our desires. With effort, this should be possible. Mars and Venus understand each other here.
Alternatively (or also) there may be issues here around our sense of self-worth at this time, perhaps we have lost – or rather mislaid – that deeper sense of who we truly are. This eclipse may be a time when we decide to take positive steps to find ourselves again, and to remember that our value is not dependent on the opinions of others, but is rooted in ourselves alone.
So, when we are busy being compassionate and helping the rest of the world, we must remember to come back to our own selves, our self-care rituals, our own, private spiritual paths. These are the things that sustain us make us who we are, not the judgements of others.
All this will be especially true for those of us with planets or angles around 15 degrees of the Mutable signs – Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces.
This eclipse may tie into something that began with an eclipse at the same degree on 7th September 2006, or perhaps with the New Moon in Pisces on 10th March 2024. Think back to those times and ask yourself if developments now are perhaps connected to stories happening then.
