Between Fire & Air: Aries Full Moon

Full Moon at 14 degrees 8’ Aries, at 04h48 UTC, on 7th October 2025

In the evening of 6th October, Mercury steps from Sagittarius into Scorpio. Gone are the big ideas and the wide horizons, now we are called to explore deeply inside ourselves and find resources we probably didn’t know we had – and we must hope that we have them.

This Mercury shift is the prelude to the Full Moon in Aries on 7th. Both Mercury and the Moon are ruled by Mars, secure and secretive in Scorpio, his own sign.

Unusually, in the skies on this Full Moon, the luminaries stand in their time-honoured opposition completely and utterly alone, facing off from Aries to Libra, and looking nowhere else.

The intensity of this gaze echoes the intensity of Mercury in Scorpio and demands that a truth must be faced, acknowledged or spoken. What is it that we need to say, to discover or to accept within the framework of our partnerships?

Undiluted, the sign of Aries often lacks awareness of others. It charges into the fray intent on its own goals, its own quest. However, there can be a freshness and innocence and a very real bravery about this sign. It leads from the front and it gets things started.

Libra, on the other hand, is hyper-aware of other people and often seeks peace at the expense of – well, just about anything. At their best Libra people are superb mediators and advocates for peace, balance and harmony. At their worst, they are indecisive and will aim to avoid conflict at any cost.

The universal themes of peace and war, of me versus you, of Mars (Aries) versus Venus (Libra), spill out from our innermost psyches into the world. These mythic stories are enacted on each and every level, internal and external.

So, this Full Moon asks us to balance these two poles, to find equilibrium. In ourselves first of all, especially if we have planets or angles around 14 degrees of these signs – or at 14 degrees of Cancer and Capricorn, the other Cardinal signs. But also in our relationships, in our business partnerships and in our dealings with the world in general.

We may need to ask ourselves (and our partners) a few questions:

Are we getting enough out of this?

Are we putting enough into the relationship?

Is this situation fair and balanced?

Do we feel we are being trampled on?

Should we be more – or less – assertive?

So, who are the movers and shakers behind this Full Moon, who is dispositing (ruling) these Luminaries? In the Moon’s corner we have Mars in Scorpio, less headstrong than in Aries but with a quiet brooding power and impressive resilience. He is also unaspected. A lone wolf digging deep and biding his time.

Behind the Sun we have Venus in Virgo, eminently capable but probably slightly anxious, ready to adapt and search for practical solutions to avoid conflict. More willing that she should be, perhaps, to accommodate others.

Full Moons are the culmination of a lunar cycle, so something here has reached a conclusion and can go no further. A decision may need to be made around themes of relationship or partnership versus independence and autonomy. We must let something go.

In the theory of Moon families, this full Moon is linked to the New Moon on 8th April 2024. This New Moon at 19 degrees Aries, sat with Chiron, the wounded healer. If you have a story that began around then, this could be another chapter, or even a resolution of some kind.

Ultimately, this Full Moon teaches that we are always only ourselves in relation to others.

The question is how can we live in partnership and retain our independence? What must we give, and what do we keep?

How do we create an equilibrium which is nevertheless dynamic so that we, and the relationships we value, continue to grow and to evolve?

Light a candle perhaps, or safely light a bonfire to honour this Moon and consider the balance between Fire (Aries) and Air (Libra). Air is warmed by fire. Fire offers light. The air, however, is necessary for fire to come alive and flourish. Too much air and fire goes out or goes on the rampage. Too much fire and the air is unbreathable. When in balance, the fire burns steadily, warm, inspiring and brave, while the air circulates freely around it with clarity of mind and insightful judgement. This is our goal.
