New Moon at 28 deg 24’ Sagittarius, 01h42 UT on 20th December 2025
The final lunation of the calendar year is about a journey of hope. This New Moon in the sign of Sagittarius speaks of the ever-present possibility of optimism, joy and faith in the future.
Sagittarius has a vision, painted in broad brush strokes on a distant horizon, and holds the firm belief that someday, somehow, he/she/they will get there.
Faith and meaning are keywords for Sag season. Sagittarius is ruled by expansive Jupiter currently in emotional Cancer. In Cancer, Jupiter is calm, cautious and quietly joyful. This is the sign of family, imagination, nurturing and belonging.
Jupiter has been tracking backwards for a few weeks now, exploring how these themes (family, tribe and belonging) might be reworked and re-examined in our lives. This may have led us to ask ourselves…
What is really important here?
What matters most to us and gives meaning to our lives?
What might ‘nurture’ and belonging mean and how might we express them?
How can we look after and protect ourselves and those close to us?
What, ultimately, can we do for the best?
Jupiter and the Moon are in mutual reception at this lunation, a relationship of sympathetic understanding. This year, even more than usual, concepts of faith and renewal go hand in hand.
The Moon and Sun have come through a square to Saturn which might have meant challenges or reality checks, and are now approaching a square to Neptune, harbinger of our dreams. Neptune can drown us in hopeless longing or fly us to the stars. It is also in a Jupiter-ruled sign; Pisces.
With Neptune, compassion is key – for ourselves and for every soul and spirit on our planet.
The New Moon follows a chilly exchange between Saturn and Venus earlier in the day, suggesting our relationships may need nurturing too. Many people have been under a lot of personal pressure during the last couple of months and this can make us tense or withdrawn. We can hurt those we love, even when we don’t mean to. This is often a reflection of the hurt or stress we are feeling ourselves.
The New Moon is a chance for renewal and forgiveness, for spirituality and connection, for understanding and (self) belief.
So, at the end of the year we have a new beginning. Our faith maybe challenged, we may want to run away, it may be disappointing or all feel like too much, but still, there is again the possibility of setting our eyes on the horizon and envisioning our dreams.
Mars in pragmatic Capricorn will help us to define our goals and work on strategy.
And on 21st December, the Sun joins Mars in Capricorn for the Winter Solstice. More on this to follow…
