The Winter Solstice

Sun enters Capricorn 15h03 UTC, 21st December 2025, Winter Solstice

On 21st December, the Sun moves into the sign of the Seagoat and turns back towards the light. Capricorn is a shy, practical and ambitious sign which goes about its business with determination, quiet faith and a strong sense of responsibility .

It is a purposeful sign and leadership comes naturally. People with strong Capricorn signatures often find success within existing structures – large companies, government organisations, church hierarchies – but are also more than capable of starting their own businesses.

Outward form is important to Capricorn, but so is inner faith. There is more to these people than first meets the eye. Whilst Cap’ unquestionably seeks security and strives to build safe containers for its family and community, the Seagoat also has its tail in the waters of infinity. It needs to believe.

This is a receptive Yin sign and is probably more fragile, and more emotional than it first appears. It doesn’t usually find the cuddly type of nurturing easy, and the pennies will definitely be carefully counted – love-language more likely to be acts of service than the giving of gifts. However, there is vulnerability. It may be carefully hidden but it’s there. Genuine appreciation for their efforts will bring out the best in our Saturnine friends.

This Winter Solstice, Moon, Sun and Mars are all in Capricorn. The Moon renewed at the end of Sagittarius just a couple of days before, seeding optimism and hope in the face of challenges. Now the sense of rebirth and renewal is doubled as both Moon and Sun turn towards the light.

A story is ending this winter and a new one beginning. Neptune is now direct in Pisces, in the final degree of the final sign. Both compassion and delusion are available to us in bucket loads. Neptune moves definitively into Aries on 26th January 2026 and our Zeitgeist will shift. Saturn follows Neptune and they meet on 20th February when something new will be seeded.

Now, this Solstice, is the time to take responsibility for this future and to be realistic about our dreams. We must consider our foundations and to find something solid on which to build. And then we must apply ourselves practically to our goals in true Capricorn fashion.

Interestingly, Mercury-Hermes, Magician, Herald and Psychopomp, stands alone in this Solstice chart, in Sagittarius and square the Nodes. He is unpredictable and untetherable. He tells us that this future that seems so imminent is not yet quite written; there are still choices to be made, options to be taken. We must be prepared to adapt, to be of service and to stay true to our vision.

This Solstice asks us to choose wisely, to choose with compassion and to choose with faith.

Wishing you Peace and Blessings this Winter Solstice
