Jupiter retrograde; 11th November 2025 at 25 deg 9’ Cancer, trekking back to 15 deg 5’ Cancer where it turns direct on 11th March 2026.
When Jupiter, our planet of expansion, faith, meaning, travel and higher learning embarks on its annual retrograde it’s always a big deal. This year its in Cancer, ruled by the fluctuating Moon.
This may be an emotional time, when feelings fluctuate and are sometimes overwhelming.
A time to …work on creative or imaginative projects that involve your feelings and emotions – draw, paint, write, bake, sort out your photos…
… reconnect with your past; your ancestors and the people you call family – phone calls, messages, emails, candles lit for those who have passed.
… for self-care and self-nurture – nourishing food, quiet times with your cat and a book, unhurried walks in the park.
… to consider what family, home and tribe mean for you (may be it’s not your biological family that’s important).
… reflect on where you find faith and what offers you hope, then hold it tightly, just like the Cancer crab would do.
Cancer is about our connections to our home, our past, our ties of family and tribe. It’s a sign that nurtures and values its connections to its people, its ancestors.
It is careful and self-protective like its crab symbol, disliking direct confrontation.
It moves sideways towards its goals, cautiously but determinedly.
It’s imaginative, creative and changeable, like the Moon.
Yet it is not a pushover. Cancer, for all its sensitivity is a Cardinal sign. The entry of the Sun into Cancer marks the Summer Solstice. It initiates and should not be underestimated. Think Elon Musk who has strong Cancer signatures.
So, our Jupiter projects of expansion and growth, of finding meaning in the realms of creativity, of family, home and our past, enter a period of gestation with this retrograde. A period during which change and growth happen beneath the surface, not yet ready to be seen by the world.
Projects that are not yet completely formed or formulated, but which have been envisioned, or begun, now undergo a process of revisioning. This is a time to work on them in the darkness, as it were, under the light of the Moon.
They may be brought out into the light in March 2026, when Jupiter turns direct. Or in early June when it finally returns to 25 degrees Cancer and our planet of expansion properly moves on.
The first contact retrograde Jupiter makes is with the Sun in Scorpio on 16th November. The Sun moves into a bountiful trine firstly with Jupiter and then with Saturn, uniting our principle of expansion and meaning (Jupiter) with our planet of structure and boundaries (Saturn). Perhaps a time during which something may take on form.
The Jupiter/Saturn trine happens for real in August 2026 and may be connected to projects or themes that entered our lives around the December 2020 Jupiter/Saturn conjunction.
These cycles run in the background of our lives and keep us slowly moving onwards.
We should aim to use this retrograde well – trying not to kick and fight because things don’t move fast enough – to use it quietly and consciously to prepare for the next phase of life expansion and spiritual growth.
If you have personal planets or angles around 25 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn, this Jupiter retrograde period may be especially important. Check out your chart to see in which areas of your life these themes are likely to play out (or book a reading!)
Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces so this is going to be especially relevant to those with these signs prominent in their charts – and Cancer too, of course.
