New Moon at 25deg 57’ Taurus, 21h00 BST, 16th May 2026
The New Moon is a reset point taking its deeper meaning from the sign in which it falls. Taurus is Yin, Fixed, Earth – receptive, stable and supremely practical. Taurus isn’t interested in quick fixes but builds for the long term.
The sign of the Bull cannot be rushed. It moves steadily, perseveres, is loyal, peaceful, determined and appreciates calm. It moves from that quiet, patient space deep inside us all. Taurus wants things to continue…
This Moon is about continuity and sustainability on every level. What do we need to sustain us and how can we find it, build it or create it sustainably?
With this lunation we are invited to build something lasting in the area of our natal chart in which 26° Taurus falls. Something that will reinforce our deepest sense of who we are on this planet and how we engage with our material existence.
Something around themes of the natural world, our bodies or material security – Taurus is about land, food, finances, physical existence – all the ‘stuff’ we interact with in our everyday lives.
Something that reinforces our self-worth and our sense of ourselves as individuals playing our part in a wider whole.
The New Moon is ruled by Venus in Gemini, so perhaps a writing project is involved? Or maybe siblings, conversations, how we learn, teach and communicate… It could also reflect a desire to be more engaged with our local community or our immediate environment.
Minutes before the New Moon perfects, in the darkest of the dark, Mars connects with Chiron in Aries. It’s his final aspect before he moves into Taurus on 18th May. With this coming together may come the realisation that some things can’t be mended and we can’t always act as we might wish. The New Moon then offers the opportunity of grounding, and a dose of helpful pragmatism as we start afresh and look at what we can genuinely build or create with the resources we have.

Lastly, this New Moon reminds us that we are the stewards of our Earth. Taurus speaks to how we engage with that responsibility. Its vision is long-term.
A Taurus New Moon speaks to our existence in this beautiful planet and the practical, material things it takes to sustain us and every other species. Every living thing from bats, badgers and beavers, to ferns, flies and frogs is woven into a web of inter-dependability of which we are also a part.
What initiatives can we put in place to contribute to the well-being of our natural environment? Simple things like not cutting the lawn too soon allows meadow flowers to flourish, offers habitats for insects and nourishment for pollinators. These then become food for birds and bats.
We might grow a few vegetables or herbs (possible even in a window box) thus becoming more engaged with what we put into our bodies and how we interact with the earth.
We could take a bag with us on our walks and commit to picking up a few bits of carelessly dropped litter. These are all small things that can make a difference and make us feel more grounded and involved – there are many more.
“Cherish the natural world, because you’re a part of it and you depend on it”. David Attenborough
Finally, know that all the three personal planets change signs this week and the vibe alters perceptibly. Mercury moves into Gemini on 17th, Mars into Taurus on 18th, Venus into Cancer on 19th, and then the Sun crosses into Gemini on 21st May.
With these shifts we become less passionate, less hasty – perhaps less selfish too. Less sure of what we want, but more focussed on connection and communication.
Set realistic, practical intentions on this Taurus New Moon. Start a savings plan, spend time outdoors, cook, garden, crochet, work with clay, slow down and listen to your body. Don’t expect miracles. Do expect – and do aim for – steady growth.
Make your wish when you see the new crescent in the sky…
