Possibility & Potential; Full Moon in Sagittarius

Full Moon at 9 deg 55’ Sagittarius, 09h45 BST, 31st May 2026

A Full Moon laden with uncertainty and potential, ruled by Jupiter in Cancer.

The Gemini/Sagittarius axis is the ‘Axis of Exploration’. It’s about our desire to expand our horizons physically, socially and intellectually. It’s the path that leads from our immediate environment and our known community, into the wider world.

This Sagittarius Full Moon is about our sense of adventure, our desire to explore. Sagittarius, being Jupiter-ruled, is also about meaning, and about faith. This is the Mutable Fire sign – adaptable and visionary. Sag sees (or almost sees) the distant horizon and rides towards it in the firm belief that it will all be fine.

Across the sky, the Gemini Sun, Mutable Air wants more information, more facts, has built up a network of contacts in its local community and is quite happy where he/she is, thank you. Gemini likes to move freely, this way and that. He/she knows everyone and is known. Sag, on the other hand, is an arrow heading off into the sunset – they may collect followers on the way.

Each sign contains the other within it and both are necessary; knowledge and faith, information and meaning, to explore distant lands and to build local community.

In this Full Moon chart, Jupiter and the Moon are powerfully connected, each sitting in each other’s sign. This ties this Moon strongly to themes of home, family, tribe, our past, and those we care for and wish to nurture and protect. Cancer is a Water sign so our emotions will be involved. It’s creative and imaginative. It’s full of hope and meaning.

The Moon is held by a positive connection to Saturn in Aries which links it to the individual and the boundaries that are placed on each one of us by material reality. Saturn also offers a container, a structure which suggests the possibility of making our desires real.

What have we been hoping for leading up to this Full Moon? What remains possible that can still be shaped into being? And what must we let go of? What journey are we on that is coming to a conclusion or decision moment now?

Or do we now see that we need to change tack and head off go in a different direction? What is the information telling us, and how do we square this we what we hope and trust and believe?

How is our faith and hope for the future now being shaped by the boundaries imposed by the material world, the hard facts?

This Full Moon tells us that moving forward is important. Life is a journey to be embarked upon with optimism – but we must arm ourselves with information all the same.

What we can hope to achieve is not boundless but it will be meaningful for us. In the end the journey is ours and ours alone. That is where we must place out faith.

The Full Moon, the culmination of the lunar cycle, is often a moment of decision or realisation. In Moon family theory, this Full Moon links back to a New Moon at 9 deg Sagittarius on 1st December 2024. Is something that began back then coming to a conclusion now?
