Sun enters Cancer 9h24 BST 21st June 2026
Summer Solstice, the longest day, when our life-giving luminary pauses, and then turns back towards the dark. This is a magical time, known for aeons by our ancestors who built great monuments as temples to celebrate the light and the passage of the solar god across our skies. Here in France, we celebrate with music – open air events in every town and city, bands on every street corner.

The Summer Solstice chart is our blueprint for the next three months. Each time the Sun crosses one of the four Cardinal angles (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), it signifies the start of something new. So, how does this one look?

Cancer relates to our roots, our past, our ancestors, the place we have come from. It’s a sign of memory, nostalgia and imagination. Like all Water signs it operates primarily through feeling and that subtle intuition that senses – and responds to – those things that cannot be seen – the underlying conversations, the dark dreams, the hidden pearls.
The Cancer Sun is trine/sextile the Nodes and sextile Chiron, newly entered into Taurus. Together they create a cradle held within the nodal axis. Chiron in Taurus reminds us to pay close attention to our physical world – our bodies, our planet, our material security in all its forms – finances of course, but also our relationship with the Earth itself as living, breathing Gaia. Chiron in Taurus can be the wound of avarice, of clinging on and accumulating, of failing to ground ourselves properly, of failing to face reality – of not understanding where true value lies. The Cancer Sun tunes into this and nudges us to attend to it.
The Cancer/Taurus combination asks us to care, to be careful with what we have, to protect the people we love – but not to cling too tightly. The harmonious cradle suggests compassion and imagination might come more easily this quarter, and with Mercury also in Cancer, at the apex of a flowing triangle with the Moon and Mars, there is the possibility we might actually love our neighbours – or at least our siblings. And perhaps, also, we will write… the book or memoir that means so much to us, the poetry, the important emails. Mercury turning retrograde at the end of June might grant us the time we need.
The Moon and Mars, both in Earth signs in this chart, suggest closeness to nature, an aptitude for detail and the ability to organise and manage our world. Finances and resources are again highlighted. Meanwhile, Leo Venus approaching an aspect to Saturn strengthens our sense of self confidence and our ability to express ourselves.
This is a chart of positive potential, although it lacks adaptability and airy reflection – which might make it difficult to stand back and think things through rationally. Pushing steadily ahead seems to be the order of the day.
In which case, thinking things through and changing tack where necessary must be consciously integrated together with an element of detachment.
It’s good to care, and to care passionately, but our survival and our mental health also require that we take a step back and look clearly, objectively. Uranus moves slowly and is still square the Nodes. Unexpected change is possible and we must keep our options open.
We must borrow the outer planets, Uranus and Pluto, to help us with clarity, so that we don’t get too stuck in our own heads even as we are going with the flow.
It’s a time to write, paint, dream and be creative. Have a lovely summer.
