Libra New Moon; Tread softly…

Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

W.B Yeats

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Libra is the seventh sign and thus it begins the second half of the Zodiac. We have completed the individual lessons of Aries to Virgo – the solitary quest, the search for stability and continuation, the desire to communicate etc,…Now, in Libra, we meet the Other, the partner. ‘I’ becomes ‘We’ and suddenly there is someone who mirrors back to us, who disagrees, who shows us a different version of ourselves.

Libra is the relationship sign. Both the dream and the reality.

Libra processes the world through the intellect. It weighs things up and takes time to make fair and balanced decisions. It’s airy, sociable and needs to circulate, converse and to arrive at accord with others. It will accommodate and compromise, sometimes perhaps more than it should, in the name of a peaceful, hassle-free existence. But this is a Cardinal sign and there is often hidden steel behind that charming smile. Once that carefully weighed up judgement has been made, Libra rarely goes back.

And this is never more true than when Libra-ruler Venus is in Scorpio – as she is currently.

A New Moon is always a new beginning and this one offers an opportunity to begin something new in the realm of partnership – or perhaps to review and recalibrate an existing relationship. Are we making too many compromises? Is it truly 50/50?

Libra is also associated with contracts and diplomacy. Is this the moment to initiate a peace plan, seek justice over something, or negotiate a contract?

Whatever this New Moon means for us, whatever new initiatives are taking shape in our lives now, we will need to proceed with care, as Venus retrograde in Mars-ruled Scorpio is definitely not at her best. In this sign our planet of love and desire is tenacious, emotionally present and unswervingly loyal. Crossed she can also be can be jealous and vengeful. The peace-loving, people-pleasing, compromising Venus is not so much in evidence.

And she is in a stand-off with Mars in Leo, who might seem over-full of himself but deep down is feeling fairly fragile in a ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ kind of way.

So, relationships are especially complicated just now and there may be issues to navigate around shared values and finances and everyone’s feelings of self-worth to consider. Libra negotiating skills are needed more than ever.

And it’s possible, with Venus in Scorpio, that this New Moon beginning could be an ending too. What do we need to let go of here (and perhaps we really, really, want to hang on to it – an idea, a person, a thing…?) so that we can move on? Scorpio tells us that endings – and the changes they bring – are part of life. Growth comes through transformation.

Mercury turns retrograde on 24th October as retrograde Venus meets the Sun. This maybe something of a watershed.

If the going is tough for any reason, remember everything moves in cycles. Things will probably improve around 14th November when Venus and Mercury both turn direct.

If you have planets or angles around 17 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), this New Moon will be especially important.
